My Week

Greetings from the south 😃!! It is warmer here than at home today we hit a high of 23° which was nippy but not as bad as at home. And it makes me very thankful for an inside job.

This week I am getting trained in for laundry and that is very different than anything I am used to and not somethinng I overly enjoyed at home but here it is on a much bigger scale. I think it may be something I will come to enjoy once I get the hang of what I am doing and I dont feel so new at it anymore.

Before this week we had some really nice weather and it was so much fun to go walking on the dirt road beside the home but since it has been so cold I have been skipping my walk and sleeping instead but I think tomorrow no matter how cold it is outside I NEED my excersice. :)

The new dorm is getting finished pretty quickly and we are hoping we can move into it in the beginning of February. We have a group of workers from Summit View this week to work on it they are doing the railing on the porches and edges. It will looks so nice once they are finished.

Well I hope you all have a blessed week!!

Christmas!!

Christmas is a great time of year it seems to bring the best out in people. For some reason people seem more generous and kind around that time of year. But why can't we have Christmas all year round? Why do we have to wait until the end of the year to be nice and giving?

And Christmas wasn't originally about gifts, santa, reign deer, and trees it was about the marvelous birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But over the years that seems to have been lost. Why do we take the reason for the season away and try to hide it.

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince Of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with Judgment and with Justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Good News and More Good News

Well alot has happened since I have been here. Yesterday someone commented on the fact that I will have been here 3 weeks on Sunday and it does not seem that long at all. I probably will be getting trained in for laundry very soon because they need someone badly, but they also need someone here to train me in and that won't happen for a bit.

The first week I was here I was off for three days because I had a feeding class where we learn how to feed the residents  and all the CNAs got a huge kick out of this because you have to feed eachother puréed food and that can be quite amusing to watch. Especially the group I had to work with 😃 it was probably quite the show!!

On my first day off it was cold and rainy out so we decided to go to a coffee shop and play games!! It was alot of fun we played " ticket to ride " and none of us knew how to play it so we played in pairs and it made for an interesting game 😃 playing the game you have a board with a map on then you have destination cards and when you have enough of train cars to get where you want to go you put little cars down on the board and you do it in little sections at a time. Well anyways it was so funny my teammate and I had already planned how we were going to be going from the beginning of the game and we cut one of the guys long trains off and then he couldn't do anything with them anymore because they we "dead" and you should have seen the look on his face it was so funny ,as we laid the cars down. We got so engrossed in our game we didn't realize we had spent 3 hours at the coffee shop!! It was a very good day!!

My second day off was the day before Christmas and nobody wanted to go into town because it would be a nightmare. So we decided we would save time and money and just go up to Elly (the guesthouse) and play games!! That was very interesting we had a fun group of people and we played Taboo for most of the day then we just sat around and talked until it was time to go down to the dorms to get ready for Christmas caroling. We went caroling for church people then came back to one of the guesthouses and ate some food 😃 which we do alot around here!!

Christmas Eve and Christmas day just did not feel like either was a holiday. I worked on both days and maybe that didn't help. On Christmas Day we had a huge feast and everyone except the CNAs had off after 11 so that was very nice but it just didn't feel like Christmas.

I have been walking pretty much every day and it is such a good workout because we have lots of hills around here and even if I don't loose any weight Inwill just be happy if I maintain it!! My housekeeping supervisor ,Shirley and I go walking together alot !! I love working and walking with her , we can talk and work together very well!! I am so happy I I can work with someone I enjoy working with!!

Well that is all for now!! For those of you who sent me a card it really brightens my days and thank you very much it really is greatly appreciated!!

Life at Mountain View!!

Life here at Mountain View is very fast paced and fun!! I enjoy my work very much. I am in housekeeping right now and I love cleaning the home. We clean one side of the hall one day and the other side the next day. And we clean doors and windows and other things after cleaning bathrooms all morning!

We have a social event every evening except for Monday nights. Monday is a free night but they usually play volleyball. Otherwise it usually is church, a banquet, or games 😃 it is alot of fun and I am enjoying the people here very much!!

I am here for Christmas and we are having the resident's Christmas party tomorrow and then we have a special supper. I hope you all have a good Christmas with your families!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Moving and Changes

Wow life is changing around our house dramatically this week and I am feeling a huge mixture of emotions. I am packing my things in my room in boxes and packing my clothes in suitcases. It seems so funny that my room is empty with boxes in the corner and suitcases and clothes strewn around the room. I wouldn't have packed my room all up but my family is buying a house in the spring and I may not be able to get home to help move and I don't want other people to pack my things.

I am getting excited and nervous all at one time ,especially now that the packing has begun and it has really begun to sink in that I am moving. I am leaving on Saturday and moving into Mountain View on Sunday and then beginning my new work on Monday.

I am spending lots of time with my dogs right now and enjoying every moment of it. On Sunday Ruth Ann took pictures of my dogs and I. It was more difficult than other years because Matilda is in heat and Duke couldn't understand why he couldn't spend time with her. We spent an hour trying to get a couple good pictures and we did succeed getting a few good ones.

Two weeks ago my parents had a farewell party for me and a lot of my friends came out and it was so nice to see them all together and being able to say one last goodbye. I got lots and lots of cards that were such an encouragement to me and I put them in a picture book and now I am going to take them along and look at them whenever I please.

That same week on Sunday the church had a commissioning service for me. It was so nice and  I wasn't even nervous when I stood up to give the speech ,I was so glad that I sat the whole way at the front so I couldn't see who was all behind me until I got up to talk. Then they had the message and then our Bishop asked me some questions then I kneeled down and our 5 ministers laid their hands on me and prayed for me and my journey down in VA.

This past week was my last week working at the shop and I cleaned up the entire bottom of the shop it was a lot of work because it was especially bad this year but it was so worth it because it is now all clean and dad will be able to find all the parts when I am gone. I will very miss working here and also miss all our very nice customers.

I hope you all have a blessed week.

Death with Dignity

There is a lot on the news and facebook right now about dying with dignity and I figured I would write my views and opinions about it. You may not agree with what I have to say on here but if you wish to comment please be nice.

I was away over the weekend and came home to see that Brittany Maynard had ended her own life because she had a stage 4 brain tumor. She had ended her life via pills on Saturday with her husband and mother by her side.

Now the reason I believe this is wrong is because I believe in doing this you are taking your life out of God's hands and saying "this is my life, my body and may do as I please with it" , and in a sense you are telling God you know better  than him when it is your time to go. He created us and knows better than anyone what we can handle in life and if he sees that you can handle cancer he will give you the courage, grace, and strength you need to get through it every step of the way.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
You may say that I have no experience in this area. No, I haven't experienced it first hand ,but I have had 3 aunts and an uncle that went through cancer and no it wasn't painless and nothing in life will ever be ,but they had God to lean on every step of the way and I believe that the reward of Heaven makes all the pain and suffering so worth it. To be able to see and live with Jesus every day makes every step and trial here on earth worth it all!!!

And you if you do choose the route to end your life you may never know in what way God could have used you later on in your days on this earth ,because God has a plan and a purpose for each one of us on this earth and he desires greatly to have each one in Heaven with him.

There is a lot more I could say on this subject but I think I will leave it there for now but I may touch on it more later.
