Heat Tip

YourAKC

Keep Safe in the Sun
When the sun comes out, we all want to make the most of it and our pets are
always eager to join in the fun. Yet just like us, dogs can suffer in the heat.
When going for a long walk in the sunshine, it is important to remember that
no matter how much they may run around, dogs are not inexhaustible. Be sure
to stop regularly to let your dog have a drink, and walking near streams that
they can paddle in will make sure that they can keep cool. The best time to
walk your dog is in the early morning or late evening before the weather gets
too hot. If your dog slows down and seems to want a rest, then let them lie in
a shaded area for a while and cool them by pouring water on their neck, the
pads of their feet, and their belly before continuing.

Summer is the perfect time to get the BBQ going, but this can hold all sorts of
dangers for our pets. Dogs just love the smell of cooking meat but make sure
that they can never snatch anything as sizzling sausages can burn their
stomach when swallowed. Also dangerous are kebab skewers and cooked bones,
which can splinter when chewed. Keep everything out of reach of your pet and
make sure rubbish goes straight into the bin.

While everyone is having fun, it is easy to forget that your dog could be overheating
in the sun. Signs of heat stroke include (but are not limited to): excessive panting,
dark or bright red tongue and gums, sticky or dry tongue and gums, staggering,
seizures, bloody diarrhea or vomiting, and rapid heartbeat.

Ensuring that they always have somewhere cool to sit and cool water (not ice water)
to drink greatly reduces the risk of heat related illnesses such as sunstroke. You can
help your pet by placing cool wet cloths on his paws and around his head. Also,
offering ice cubes for your pet to lick is also a great cool-down treat!

Of course, no matter how careful you are, accidents can still happen to our beloved pets.

UPDATE: on all the dogs

CHLOE:
I talked to Chloe's new owners and she is doing well and they lover her. She is hopefully going to be a future therapy dog! I am very happy with the home she has gone to. She now lives in the house and they said she has yet to "go" in the house and she doesn't bark either. She is scheduled to be spayed in the end of this year and then she will get her hips checked out as well but from what both their vet and my vet saw from the outside (no x-rays) her hips look great! Just figured I let ya'll know a little about her again!

MATILDA:
as far as I can tell Matilda is expecting and I calculated and we should be having puppies on August 2nd I am so excited. Yesterday I went and bought some puppy toys and am stocking up on the things I need. Now to get momma in shape :). Her training has been going excellent she didn't forget a thing since I was gone we still have a little work to do before we go back to the trainer though because the next step is agility (yippee) and that is building confidence and trust.

DUKE:
he has a visiting female until Friday night this will be his fourth female now the other females the one had 9 and the other 11 so we shall see how many this will bring :). Duke is the same old faithful companion but out of all the dogs I think he missed me the least when I was gone which was surprising to me :).

SASHA:
I talked to sasha's owners and she is doing good she will be 7yrs this December! I am going to go visit them over her birthday this year! They are hoping to bring her over here to our place so that I can see her again it's been almost 2yrs since I've seen her I have called them throughout the years but never got to see her it is going to be a priority now though because I want to see her before she gets too old. I would love if I could take pictures of her and Matilda while she is here.

Memorial Weekend 2013

Duke and Matilda will be parents in 2 months!! I bred them this weekend so if nothing malfunctions then we should have puppies! so if you know of anyone who wants a puppy let me know!

This weekend our youth group was at the cabin I didnt have my camera so no pictures :) We had an awsome time and it was very relaxing. It was very chilly unfortunatly so we were mostly in the cabin on Friday night we played some card games and talked :). Saturday morning I got up at 8 and we had a delicous breakfast and then my friend Lori and I went on a walk it was awsome we walked a mile and then came back we played a game of volleyball just us girls that was awsome. I went in and I was sitting in the family room and I was falling asleep so I went down and took an hour nap until supper time. For supper we had hamburgers (they grilled 120 burgers) We then played perpetual comotion it is a very interesting game and can be quite loud :) then we had a spiritual activity which consisted of singing. Then our youth leader Kevin Hurst and his sister Kristi sang a song he made up about coffee. We then made marinated beef cubes over the fire very delicous.

Sunday we got up at 8 and had breakfast then Gerald Martin out spiritual advisor for the youth group had the sermon and we sang a few songs. We then went outside and I watched as they played volleyball until dinner time at 12 then we got all packed up and cleaned the cabin up and loaded the trailer and vans and headed off  I fell asleep on the 2hr drive home then we came home and I put Duke and Matilda together and they locked. I then spent some time with both of them and had a relaxing evening.

We are taking off from work today and we packed the ebay stuff this morning and then we went to Olive Garden for dinner now we are going to go out and move the chicken house and put a fence up and let the little chicks out :) yippee. They will probably start laying next month. we just need to find somone who want old chickens that occasionally lay.
